Need Help Looking On The Bright Side?

We all know it’s better to stay positive. It makes life so much sweeter when we are in a place where peace, joy and hope fills our minds. It gets hard sometimes to remain in our sweet spot. Sometimes life just gets complicated and it’s easy to become worried.   While I certainly don’t claim to be an expert on this subject, I, like you, have experienced times of bliss and times of non-bliss; I guess you can say, times when I’m less than positive.  It’s easy to become negative when faced with a disappointment or unexpected struggle. I’ve found when life throws me a curve, if I rely on God’s word, my mind, emotions and outlook change from negative to positive. A much healthier way to feel and live.

The Bible is the first mental health handbook ever written. God, after all, is the first psychologist. I’m sure He knows a thing or two about human behavior! God is also the first to know how our thoughts affect us. He was and is a specialist in Cognitive Therapy. I am not a Psychologist so bear with me here. From my understanding cognitive therapy is self talk:  what we say to ourselves. The therapy part would be changing all of the negative or faulty beliefs you consistently say to yourself and refueling your mind with more positive truths. Okay, I can just visualize all the Psychologist’s in blog land reading this, shaking their heads and wagging their fingers, saying “Poor girl. She’s clueless about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy“.  That may be true! However, as a Christian I believe that with God’s help and an in pouring of His word into our minds we can overcome negativity, unhealthy thoughts and change the untruths we think to the truth.  Jesus said in (John 14:16) “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Jesus also says in (John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  So if Jesus is the word and the word = truth then W+T=P. Okay I’ve never been good at math. What I’m trying to say is word plus truth equals positive thoughts! Isn’t that what we all want? To feel more positive about our life and whatever we have to deal with day-to-day!

So if you’re struggling right now, try reading God’s word. It will really help clean out those negative cobwebs. It doesn’t happen overnight, but If you’ll keep reading the word and asking for wisdom to know the truth the Holy Spirit will help you. Before long, your thought life will be transformed by the truth of God’s word, which will put you into a more productive and positive place. You’ll be lifted out of that downward spiraling pit! (Psalm 40:2) He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

Also remember  (Eph 6:12)  our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Sometimes our thoughts are not our own! Test what your thinking against God’s word and then you’ll know. You will know the truth and the truth will set you free!

(John 8:31,32 )To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
